Springtime in Southern California

I'm feeling pretty Springy right around now. All the trees in my town have started to pop with happy blossoms and I leave the windows open all day. It's gotten me into a premature Easter mood - I can't believe the holiday is still two months away!

It seems like they should have different holiday schedules for different parts of the country. We southern Californians should get Easter in February when all our flowers come up. Then maybe throw in a few extra 4th of July type holidays in May and June to accommodate our longer summers. We can skip Thanksgiving entirely (Fall? What Fall?) and get straight to Christmas at the beginning of December. When we lived in Michigan, we could have used more Christmases to get us through the excruciating 7 month long winters and Valentine's Day should be nixed because who can be in the mood for love when it's 20 degrees below and sleeting? And for all my Texas friends, how about declaring August a holiday so that everyone can leave the state for cooler pastures. Everyone leaves anyway but has to use precious vacation time. Then Texans could just skip all those random holidays at the beginning of August (Labor, Veterans, Columbus) to make up for it. Anyways, the point it, it's Easter here whether or not the calender says so.

I found some really fun Peeps products at my local discount store and went a little nuts and bought $60 worth of stuff to sell on eBay. Luckily for me, lots of other people seem to be in the Easter mood and the stuff is actually selling. I don't know quite what gets into my head. I am selling these things for a small profit but it's going to be way more trouble than it's worth. Regardless, something about finding that sacred deal and profiting off it gives me happy tingles in my toes. Or maybe that's just because my feet never went back to their normal size after my pregnancy and my shoes are cutting off my circulation...who really cares why - it's a fun feeling.

After buying all the Peeps items, I got online to check out their general web-availability and found some fun stuff. There is an official Peeps webpage with all kinds of gear and fan clubs. There are also roaring debates on the internet on whether Peeps or chocolate bunnies are the Easter basket stuffer of choice. It reminds me of the Neil Diamond debate because people seem to either love 'em or hate 'em. I for one, love them (but hate Neil). I get sweet satisfaction from being able to viciously rip off their little heads between my teeth and mush up their marshmallowy brain matter in my jaws. You could never get that kind of satisfaction from a chocolate bunny. First of all, because they are usually hollow, there is absolutely no brain matter to enjoy. Secondly, there is a "been there done that" element to chocolate that makes it entirely un-special.

So happy Easter to everyone. Or Merry Christmas if you live in Michigan. A very happy 4th of July to my friends in Hawaii. I'm finally starting to understand why people made up Kwanza. Your holiday's should serve you - not the other way around. My made up holiday is going to be Curb-Day. Everyone will just put their unwanted stuff out on their curb and you can just drive around town picking up anything you want for free from everyone's yard. It would be the ultimate spring cleaning event. I am going to force this post to end even though it keeps clawing at me for one last, random word.

What a fabulous idea! I could certainly use another Christmas here in the dreary and frostbitten midwest right now. I'm filled with envy of your sunny California home. Did you know they actually have a curb day like you suggest in Madison, Wisconsin? It's quite an event for those badgers. The local news covers it and everything. Happy Easter to you!

Mmm... Peeps. We have some from last year that should be just about right by now (everybody knows they're better when aged!)

We must live in different cities or something . . . I've been freezing all day! Spring, schmring. I keep my windows closed all day and I'm sitting under a blanket right now. I can't wait until it's 80 degrees and me, you, Penny and me can hang out in the pool!!
