My Kryptonite

I'm doomed. Pixie has found my ultimate parenting weakness and now I'm playdough in her pudgy little hands. What can make any mother stop dead in her dictatorial tracks? Here's the situation: I'm trying to get Pixie in her carseat but she wraps her arms around my neck, snuggles her head into my chest and starts patting my back. Foiled! What am I supposed to do? Pry her off of me and make her get in her carseat? Impossible. I'm powerless against the power of her hugs.

It's shocking how effective her methods are. I have found myself out of commission for a quarter of an hour while she bear hugs me rather than bend to my will. Don't want a diaper change? Give Hollywood a hug. Don't want to put on clean clothes? Easy. Just grab onto mom's shoulders and hug away. Pixie is smart. She quickly ascertained that I have zero tolerance for fussing, fuming and squealing so she went to opposite route and smothers me with affection when she gets in a tight spot. I eat it up. What else can I do?

Even if I do someday overcome the overwhelming power of her hugs, I'm sure she'll find my other weaknesses. Unlike Superman, I have many. She'll realize that when she meows like a cat I melt. One of these days she'll discover my weakness for foot massages. Oh, to seal my heart! But I fear I'm going to be one of those sucker moms that actually likes their kids more than they like discipline. Darn this motherly affection!

That was how it was with me and Bethany. She wasn't tricking me, though, just a wonderful huggy little child. I would take her out of her car seat before going into the grocery store and just put my cheek against hers and we would stand out there and hug and snuggle. I felt as if I were drawing peace out of that little child to bolster me for my hectic life. Such happy memories. Enjoy your precious little PJ. She really is such a prize, isn't she? Nothing better than a huggy child, I say. Stop the world and enjoy. Soon she will think you are the dumbest thing on the planet. Until then, wallow in the love!
