Delightful Amnesia

We were playing peek-a-boo. I would unfurl her pink fleece blanket over her entire body and then whip it off to make her shriek with delight. Our simple game had been going for about five minutes and my toddler had decomposed into a mess of giggles.

Once again I flung the blanket over her tiny body. And then everything went blank. I heard myself asking, "where's Pixie," in a stranger's voice and thought, 'what an odd sounding name.' I looked puzzled down at the blanket with a squirming bulge underneath and couldn't for the life of me think of who might lie underneath. Off came the blanket. There, laughing up at me lay the most beautiful little girl imaginable. She had bright blue eyes full of glee and gave me a look of pure adoration. "Here I am, Mommy!" she yelled and to my surprise she flung her arms around my neck in an intense embrace.

In an instant, it all came rushing back. She was mine. My mental black-out only lasted 2 seconds tops but it was enough time for me to understand for the first time how truly lucky I was to be Ms. Pixie's mother. The unexpected outsider's perspective left no question as to the overwhelming blessing of motherhood. She was mine.

Too darned cute. Squeeze them often and kiss them plenty, they grow up so fast! My 13 and 15 year olds are a testimony to that fact.... :(( Waa-haaa!!!!

BTW, may I link your site on mine? Um.... I hope so, cuz I think I already did in my manic attempt to get everything interenet related done before my kids get up, but I will undo said deed if you tell me to!

Sweet story. My sister had a similar moment while she was in the shower and her little toddler walked in and threw open the shower curtain and shouted, "Mommy!" My sister was reawakened to the reality that she WAS the mommy and that the little girl was HERS.

I am glad you got your memory back!

!!YES!! I have this theory- about out-of-body experiences- like God snaps us out of our bodies for a little intervention and then returns us. All we remember/feel is like we missed a couple of seconds of our lives. It happened to you!

What an adorable blog! And pretty soon you'll have two little ones to forget and then re-remember. :)

What an amazing experience. It's kind of hard to believe but things like that do happen- it's a little miracle. Be sure to write that one in your journal!
