Yo Ho Ho!

Cher has officially slid her wiggly way into the world. I know I'm going to get yelled at for blogging less than a day after she was born so I'll make this short.

Vitals: 9lb, 3 oz, thick Latina baby hair except blond frosty highlights, 21 inches, one crinkly ear and beautiful long fingernails.

Named: Cher, briefly Lovey (until everyone here shot that down), but we can't stop calling her Pixie and usually I just call her "Little Bear" since she's such a delightful chub.

Best Quality: The one inch deep layer of fat on her forehead. You can stick your finger on it and roll it around to make her face look like an ancient Japanese warrior.

Birth Story: I went in at 9:30 am with mild yet constant contractions. I gave my midwife the secret wink we had worked out and she made up some fluff story to the nurse about why I "needed" to be admitted even though they didn't have room for me that day. The nurse, very grumpily, took me to a room all the while telling me that there were other women who needed it more than I did. I just played it cool and let my midwife do the talking. They broke my water at 2:30 and labor progressed naturally from there. Delivered at 9:30 pm.

As far as drugs, I've mentioned I was worried about my self hypnosis not working so I asked for some drug (nubiden?) to "take the edge off." I thought at the time this meant the drug would take the edge off the pain, not my maternal propriety. A slight misunderstanding. Apparently, this drug was pirate grog and the only effect it had on me was to make me sing slurred camp songs and rave like a homeless person all afternoon. Spike was laughing his head off and the nurses were unsure of how to deal with us. Thankfully, however, my self hypnosis did actually work after two years of no practice and so between my fuzzy brain and hypnotized denial I had a pretty raucous time of labor. Cher came after five dedicated pushes. Alas, by the time she was born I was officially to the "dude" state of mind and just collapsed on the bed for another two hours before it really hit me what had happened.

So labor was crazy, Cher is a delight and I'm going to get on eBay and see if I can find some more of that pirate juice. Thanks for all your well-wishes in the last post! We are thrilled to have such a fantastic cheer squad.

She is very pretty and a smart resemblance to her big sissy. I am jealous of her hair, but give you GodMother wishes as is customary in our neck o' the woods:

May she stay sweet.
May she keep her pretty hair.
May she fit perfectly in Penny's hand-me-downs.
May she have long legs and a natural tan.

Big hugs to all the family. eeeeek! I am so excited!

oh and p.s.

Is it because you live in LA/Hollywood that you have the t.v. pregnant lady after baby small tummy...or should we all just be completely jealous???

Your gorgeous Charlotte looks so healthy, pink, and... Adam-ish. For some reason (besides sharing the same DNA and last name:)) she resembles a lot like the Daddy by just looking the first two pics. Maybe it's just me and the sleep deprivation that took place last night waiting to hear from you.

But in a more serious note, your Mommy-daughter picture is the sweetest candid shot ever...One word: PRICELESS!

Second time motherhood brings you so much joy and confidence. You're looking SO not pregnant and VERY much in love, already!.

Congratulations Adam and Sarah! So happy for you. Our kids have been praying that all would go well and it apparently did. Charlotte is a cute chubby little cherub. Can't wait to meet her in person. She and Penny will make the cutest couple of kids in California. We had a pair of girl babies to start out...wouldn't have had it any other way!

Looking good!! Congratulations! And I'm all about having my maiden name be a middle name... its just good form.

Sounds like Nubain. eBay policy doesn't allow for the selling of narcotics, but other internet sites do. You live so close to Mexico you could send Adam down for some.

Congratulations!

BTW what's up with having to log in to post now?

J-Rod
Congratulations!!

sorry j-rod. i got sick of trying to "interpret" anonymous comments and finally just turned them off. Gotta save my energy for the important stuff like Spider Solitaire.

And if anyone is wondering, there are 50 other pictures where my big after-belly, saggy eyes and nasty hospital gown are prominently featured. I reserve the right to censor!

Nubain is a reason to keep having babies. For real. If you send Adam to Mexico for narcotics, please have him pick some up for me. Thanks.

Congratulations!

Congrats! I'm glad you were able to push her out so easily given her size! You do look fantastic and I love the name Charlotte.

Yeah! She's here! I love the pirate grog... I order it every time I go to the bar next to Pirates of the Caribbean.

She is beautifully chubby and cuddly. And you look FANTASTIC! I mean, you are dressed and have styled hair and you are THIN.

Congratulations!

So glad to see this! Charlotte is actually a name I was thinking of too but my husband vetoed it.

You look like you're already back pre-pregnancy shape, and hearing your birth story makes me feel hopeful mine can be pretty positive too. That drug sounds niiiiiiicce....but I too hope I don't need it but I don't yet trust myself in that area.

And look at that girl's hair! I want to see how Penny deals with her. They look identical it seems like!

You make childbirth sound so effortless...and post-partum-ness look so thin. How do you do it?

My theory is that for the sake of your adoring fans you made up the story about "wiggle her way out" and "five committed pushes" and that you were really there for 42 hours and it was awful but you are just too good to tell us that's how it was. Oh, and that picture is of pre-pregnancy Sarah with Lovey photoshopped in. Right?

Congratulations!

Congratulations! She must have been late because she was busy highlighting her hair. Thats hard to do on your own, especially with so little wiggle room.

She really looks like Penny! Wowzer mom! YOu've already lost your tummy! There are women all over the world jealous of you at this very moment!

Hold her, hug her, and never miss a minute! They stay small only so long. Enjoy even the worst of days, because it all goes by way too fast!

Congratulations Flakes! You made another beautiful girl!

Congratulations to everyone and welcome, Charlotte.

Dear Charlotte,
Welcome to the world! You have a fabulous pair of parents, and their quirkiness will make the other kids jealous that you have the coolest parents in the world.
I love what you've done with your hair and hope you don't mind if I copy you!
Love and Kisses,
Shiloh :)

as for babies only being small for a little while, its actually kind of funny. the baby is so big, i feel like i missed out on the first month of her life. you know how newborns have those skinny little chicken legs? not our sumo baby.
Clyde said…
That's your secret! I second the idea that Charlotte was "paste" on a pre-pregnancy photo. :)

Maybe if you post one of your pics of "my big after-belly, saggy eyes and nasty hospital gown..." we'll become believers on how to look and feel that great on Sarah's after-childbirth way!

PS Thank you for making us part of your wonder-world by posting. We love to hear about your adventures.

Honestly and I am not just saying this, Charolette is one of the most beautiful newborns I have ever seen. She is gorgeous, you look hot. Your man looks happy with his tribe of females. Congratulations.
Unknown said…
Congrats, mama. She looks like some babies I have met before. You did a great job--she's very cute and not many newborns are (but don't tell anyone I said that).

BTW, we are expecting one of our own wee ones in October (which really means September).

This is the 3rd time today I've tried to post a comment...

That pirate grog you had has the exact same effect on me...and doesn't help the pain.
Everyone gets a good laugh though.

Charlotte is beautiful...and you do look fabulous.

Congratulations on a healthy and fairly easy birth.

Yay baby! Go Team Flake!

Man, she looks SO much like her sister. I think you had the same baby twice.

Congratulations!... and I hope someone slips some weight-gain powder into your food so all us other mommies can feel better about how we looked pregnant for a month after giving birth and you look like you haven't ever incubated a human.
