Hollywood the Visionary

This is posted by Spike.

So the other day, Hollywood and I were talking technology, and Hollywood casually said how surprised she was that no one has invented a way to transmit electricity wirelessly. I told her that there was actually a really old invention that did just that: it's called lightning. Turns out Hollywood was the genius.

According to technewsworld.com "Researchers at MIT have figured out how to transfer power wirelessly, a technology they've dubbed "WiTricity." Potential applications for WiTricity include powering cell phones, laptops, household robots and other battery-run devices. However, before WiTricity enters the mainstream, there is still work to be done, as the group's tested device operated at only 40 percent efficiency."

Mostly this post is about how Hollywood is a visionary, while I am so twentieth century. But if any of you geeks out there are actually interested in wireless electricity, read all about it:

Good job, babe.

WooHoo! Where's my check?

I wonder if the wireless energy works for harried moms - I could sure use a little boost right about now.

Thanks for the credit, Sweet-Cheeks.

Sarah and Nikola Tesla collaborated? I would have never guessed! ;)

Who knew we were in the presence of such genius. We're not worthy, we're not worthy.
A few years ago, I typed up a document of all the things I thought would eventually be included in the Swiss-Army-like gadget of the future: music, phone, internet, GPS, etc. I looked at it recently and noticed that we're getting close. We haven't included the shaver yet.

That's why I'm about a hair's breadth from buying an iPhone. I used to lament that if my phone could make calls AND play music AND send emails/use the web via wifi (cellular data package transfers are such a rip off), it would be the perfect machine. But will I pay $600 for it is the question. The answer, I'm pretty sure, is no.

Ok! That's just fascinating. I heard some rumblings a year or two back toying with the idea, but I had no idea that one could tweak around with physics that way and produce "wireless electricity." So cool!

Thanks for sharing!

Lightning. Funny.

Sarah. Freakin' brilliant.

I've said it before and look, I just said it again.

Now if they'd just put her in charge of that world peace thing...

p.s. re: the iPhone, if it could vacuum and do dishes and fold laundry I'd come up with 600 big ones in a flash.
I want the iPhone too! Why is Microsoft being so wussy lately? I don't want to support Apple until I have to!

Reminds me of John Galt and his power generator. If there's one person I can think of that'd be cooler than John Galt, it would be my cousin Sarah.
