Blog Ads for Sheer Profit

Yes, I'm a filthy beast, I've put ads on Hollywood Flakes.

Were you waiting for an apology? Nat gonna happen. I just realized last week that I can make over $100 a month just by having that stuff sitting on the right side of the page. So yes, they are worth any accusations of capitalism you may fling at me.

After all, it's your fault. Traffic really picked up on the site earlier this year and in April I had almost 10,000 unique visitors to Hollywood Flakes. Then I went a little nutsy after I had my second baby and tried to kill the blog by not posting and everyone started to leave. After finding how empty my life was without your daily validation through comments and traffic, I came crawling back and am now trying to nurse the blog back to health.

So say what you will about the site, but the ads are here to stay. Remember how I promise to dispense my first million to my loyal readers? This is how it starts. But there is good news for you sensitive readers who shrivel up and die when when exposed to blog ads. Since I've realized my blog's earning potential, I'm going to try and start posting a lot more often to increase traffic and make the ads worth your while. This was the kick in the bum my blog needed to get back to frequent, quality posting. Keep an eye on the site, I've got a lot of fun things planned for you! (And click an ad or two if you get bored...)

As you can tell from my defensive rant, I do feel a little bad about cluttering the sides with ads, but hey, there is some serious money to be made! Thanks to all my loyal readers who make writing this blog worth it. I'm happy to write for you guys whether I'm making money on the site or not. Please don't hold the ads against me, I eat out a lot and could use a reason NOT to order water with my meal!

At least the ad isn't yet accompanied by the message, "Click or die." ;)

I do pay per post right now. I just don't think I get enough traffic through my blog to really make blogher ads work. And I can't do both :S Good luck with it!

Hey, we will still be reading here as long as there are no photos of scantily clad or smooching people flashing on the side. If it works for you, I think it's great:)

Do you get to pick which ads are displayed?

Rachel, I don't get to pick the specific ads, but the BlogHer ads are all focused towards women and are very reliable content. I'm experimenting for a few weeks with the Google Ads but I have a feeling they aren't going to last long. I don't think the content is as reliable and would always be appropriate for my site. Plus Google Ads pay almost nothing and look yucky. I'm just going to experiment with them for a bit though to see if I'm missing out on some hidden advantage.

"Bored Without You," I'm really going to try to post more. I spend so much time on the computer that there really is no reason I shouldn't post every day. I'm a bit of a perfectionist (okay, TOTAL perfectionist) so most of the posts I write never get published but I'm going to give myself a break and let some of the other stuff see the light of day on the blog. I really enjoyed my National Blog Posting Month experience where I made myself post everyday and I feel like it helped me become a better writer because I had to write even when I didn't feel like it.

Anyways, keep your eye on the site! I'll make it worth your while :)

You mean we can actually be making money by wasting our time on our blogs? Happy day! I hope you're not kidding about sharing the wealth. Have I mentioned I'm your very mostest loyalist reader and I've got all my family reading your blog, too? (Do you need my mailing address to send me my check? I take cash, too...)

I'm about to take the plunge myself Sarah....I feel your pain. But I'd like the extra cash too. I think I'm gonna go with blogher over google too.....

At least you're not covering up the page with nothing but ads. I say go for it!

Good for you Sarah! Do NOT apologize for it. Good grief, why should anyone care? It's a blog!
I'm so very offended by the ads. I shant be coming here again to this commercial enterprise masquerading as a purist blog.

BlogHer is a good choice. The content is good and fairly steady, the ladies are awesome to work with and if there's an ad you don't want up, you can contact them and have it pulled down quickly. (I've never had to do that, by the way, and I'm pretty careful about content on my site.) Good luck with it all.
