Fashion Tips

Gah! I have been trying to post for days but have a zillion things I want to write and can't get though writing a post without getting distracted by another one! I'm just going to wipe my brain clear and forget everything I've been wanting to write and go back to day to day thoughts. So today...

I'm not too much of a control freak, but sometimes I just can't help myself from speaking up. Like this morning. I was hanging out in the bedroom while my husband got ready for work. I tried not to gag when he put on a sea foam colored, short sleeve button up shirt. I was unsuccessful. "Honey, do you mind if I give you just one little fashion tip?" I asked. I was prepared for an eyeroll and silence. Instead, he took the bait.
"Sure."
"Short sleeve button up shirts," I said, and then gave him a big thumbs down.
"So do you want me to just throw it out?"
"Yes." Without a second of hesitation, Spike grabbed his shirt and ripped it off, buttons shooting in all directions. He threw his shirt in a elegant arc across the room into the trash can.
"Happy now?"
Wow. Knowing I was pushing my luck, I said, "and pants are so last year..."
All I got for that fashion tip was a grin. The pants stayed on. Oh well, it was worth a try!

Excellent! Except the pants part. Too bad.

I have some 'gag-puke' shirts I'd like my hubby to toss...

It's funny, how they get attached to the most meaningless, icky things.

and where was the video of that??? That would have been awesome in slow-mo!

I so wish I could convince my husband of this... he loves short sleeve button up shirts. Plaid ones for work... white ones for sunday. I've tried casually mentioning... "um, do you realize the only other people that wear them are missionaries?" but he doesn't care. He simply says... I get hot in long sleeves.

oh geesh.

It's true, men are clueless. Last night Spike was in the bathroom looking at my jewelry rack. "So do you have enough earrings now?" he asked harmlessly.

I didn't know how to respond. No woman EVER has enough earrings and if he had to ask, I wouldn't be able to explain it to him. I just said nothing and gave a little prayer in my heart that the heavens would forgive his vile ignorance.

But nothing is worse than a short sleeve button up shirt with a tie! Ick. Someone pass the memo on to my husband--I think he wore a plaid short sleeve button up shirt with a polka dot tie not to long ago.

Well, I suck. I gave both my father and my husband short sleeve button up shirts for Christmas. They both loved them. So did I.
They were silk, and so cool-looking, at least I thought so.

Sooobbb!!!!!

I guess my tast level is suspect.

In other news, I will miss the hippie on Project Runway. Sweet P's time is limited.
The Wiz said…
Um, I meant "taste" level. I don't know what tast means.

I couldn't BELIEVE they cut the hippie and not Sweet P on that last challenge!! The brown dress wasn't exactly high fashion, but it wasn't just a blah sack like Sweet P's. It was a fixed cut for sure. Sweet P has yet to make anything that impresses me though. I don't know how I make it through the week six whole days between that show! Gillian rocks my world though - I was so scared that her Twizzlers "mistake" would send her home.

This Project Runway tangent is brought to you by yet another Project Runway junkie.

The clarification on the short sleeve button ups is that if you are wearing them for WORK shirts (not the fun Hawaii or print kinds) then they are just too geeky. In my humble opinion that is.
The Wiz said…
Well, they weren't exactly Hawaiian, but they were print. So maybe I'm OK. Whew.

I didn't realize reading the comments on a Hollywood Flakes post would spoil my unwatched Tivo'ed shows! AAAAAGGGGGGHHHHH!! Hollywood, I am deleting you from my Google Reader list!

Ok, Ok, you know I am too addicted to actually delete you!
Sarah said…
I'm SOOO sorry, Kerri!! I've broken the new millennium rule of discussing t.v. shows on the internet without a disclaimer for the TiVo generation. Now you need to drop your boys off at my house every day next week for playdates as my penance. Seriously - we'd love to get you guys over here for some catching up after the Christmas break!

Maybe I should try that with my hubby. But if I know him, the pants would come off, too. Men.

When Thor was first put into the office as the head honcho a couple of things took place.

#1 Families are now more important than anything we do in the office!

#2 Aloha Friday.

Needless to say all employees were taken aback by that last one.

Aloha shirts are now coming with company logo embroidery and personalized monograms. It's gotten real outta hand, a competition almost; but hey, they all look awesome one Friday!

I'm just glad my husband stopped wearing overalls.
Sometimes I accidently donate things like that... accidently...

Wow-so dramatic! I only wish men would respond accordingly when I tell them to lose the pink shirts.

Total agreement on the short sleeve dress shirts on men. Hate 'em.

Ok, I wish MY fashion tips had that kind of reaction! Sweet DH is...into fashion. And maintains that short sleeved button downs are ok for the office. (Granted - none of his are sea green, but he did purchase one at Macy's last week that is navy with honey stripes. Cute - but the sleeves? MAJOR turn off.)

I have to say, short sleeve dress shirts? SCREAM engineer/programmer/nerd. My Dad wore one every day to his job as an ME at Motorola back in the day. Holy crap, now that I think about it, he also had a pocket protector. It had his work badge on it and everything, but it was STILL PLASTIC AND FILLED WITH PENS.

'Scuse me, I have to go make a mocking phone call to my father...

heehehe. My husband is an engineer/nerd/programmer. He's proud of it.

And the shirts I bought say Jamaican on them, so they are more towards the Hawaiian theme (although they are much better looking, I think).

They are certainly not anything you could possibly wear to church or work. (except he wears shorts to work, so he could probably wear anything).

I remember an episode of the Simpsons where Marge criticized Homer for wearing a short-sleeved button-up with a tie. His response? "Sipowicz does it." You remember Sipowicz right? From NYPD blue? That should be argument enough against that particular fashion statement. Project Runway rocks.
The Wiz said…
Clarify - jamaican is on the tag. It's not like it's blaring on the front or anything.

I admit it - I had no idea that short sleeved men's work shirts were bad. I try to be fashionable myself, but how to dress my husband is a bit of a mystery (other than the pleated pants thing - I broke him of that habit FINALLY just last year). Fortunately, whoever made the dress code and hubby's new office agrees with you - all work shirts must be long sleeved.
Thanks for the tip!
