Transvestite Blondes Have More Fun

My dear old dad works out of New York City and was thoughtful enough to snap this photo on the subway a few days ago of a fellow passenger. The thing that cracks me up the most is that with all the questionable fashion choices that this outfit entails, he (she) had to throw in socks-with-sandals. The uber-mini skirt I can understand, but seriously, what was he thinking with the socks? My father commented to me on the phone today about how grateful he was for the dim lights on the subway car so the contents of the mini skirt could remain a discreet mystery.

Three cheers for New York City!

Seriously, Jessica? People are still reading my blog?! I'm speechless. I didn't expect a single comment on this post after my past few months of slacking. (please define "slacking" as "sewing")

I've seen some pretty interesting people on the subways since we've been here, but this guy/gal/freak-of-nature takes the cake. Hoo boy!

That is absolutely *fantastic*. Times like this I am reminded why I really miss New York :)

Are those wool socks? Or tights? Or...ew.

EEWWW Yuck! I'm so glad I don't live in NYC! Can you imagine trying to explain a sight like that to your kids?!

With Prop 8 at the forefront here in Cali, I have had time to ponder this more than usual. I am sure that were I to wear this exact outfit I would be arrested for indecent exposure or at the very least not be allowed to fly. Why do we fight to protect someone else's "right" to express themselves regardless of the ick factor.

Wow, wow, wow...

And Hollywood it's all about the Google Reader. Without it, you'd probably never see me--I'm sure you wouldn't miss me, but hey you know what I mean...I heart Google Reader because it gives me posts like this.

I think I just might have nightmares after seeing this picture! Yuck!

Yay! I'm so glad you're back! Although, I must point out that that? Is a Drag Queen, NOT a transvestite. It's a fine line to draw, but the shoes? The gloves? Drag Queen. Transvestites generally are more subtle and, believe it or not, straight. For those of you keeping score at home, Comedian Eddie Izzard is a transvestite, Hedda Lettuce (recently featured on Project Runway) is a drag queen.

Also, correct pronoun is usually whatever the person is trying to pass as, so in this case SHE. What can I say? I have a lot of gay friends (only two of which have better legs than I do.)

So did that guy lose a bet?

Wow, that is priceless... So glad I checked your blog today. Though you've been leaving us hanging for a while now, when you do post, you don't disappoint! Was this person posing for your dad? How did he get such a shot?

My dad claims he was snapping a secret photo with his cell phone, but it looks like the Queen is on to him. Come on now, the guy is smiling right at him - there's no way my dad was being as sneaky as he thought he was.

Adrienne, thanks for the Trannie 101. I'm a big Project Runway fan myself and was delighted to get this photo from my dad just one day after the Drag Queen challenge aired. (And WHY didn't Terri win that challenge? That girl rocks!)

Very scary. And I have a feeling this "gal" didn't mind the attention from your dad. She's not exactly trying to blend in. If you are looking for a great film about drag queen footwear, may I suggest "Kinky Boots"-- very cool film about a washed up shoe factory that begins specializing in women's footwear that can support the weight/size of men. Based on a true story. This drag queeen should see it so as to improve her own footwear choices. :)

I'm surprised at the judgmentalism here. Scary? Ick? Yuck? Ew? C'mon people, a little tolerance goes a long way to making this world a lot more comfortable for everyone.

Oh, and if my kids saw it, and asked, I'd simply say, "That's a man who thinks women's clothes are prettier". Not too difficult.

I think that's an awesome pic, btw. I'm betting she's got some seriously MALE feet. *grin*

Wouldn't the socks make you slide right off those shoes?

I know, right? Terry's wacked out kabuki drag was kind of the awesomest thing ever.

How generous of your dad! Technically, I don't think that can be considered a skirt....

Is that a belly shirt of just a really big gut? Or both? :) I'm with the other commentators--looks like she has a thing for your dad...
Wow. That's all I have to say. Your dad is hilarious that he even thought of taking a picture.

I'm so glad that today was the day I found you!! That picture is just so great on so many levels--your Dad's appreciation for dim lighting, the socks--so much other stuff exposed but by gosh--not the feet. As for tolerance and the ew facto--if a person (including any "alternative" people) wants to be taken seriously--this would not be the outfit to do it in.
I hope its okay that I link to your blog--I am putting it in my stalking section AND my FabulousFinds. Fabulous Finds are things that make me spew Crystal Light out my nose. Oh--and your daughter is fabulous--love the poetry and the butter sqirting--I had no idea people actually used that stuff....And yes I am the same person who just ordered 3 critters so although it may appear that I am a scaring, lurking stalker person--I promise I am only scary.
I just happened to click over from Mormon Mommy Blogs and --- wowzer! The Naked Cowboy in Time Square I get. This one --- hmmm, I really have no words. As for the socks, maybe he can't handle ths straps like a real girl?

That is just wrong on so many levels.
